I suspect you may think this is some form of propaganda from a Travel Agency.  But actually it's a well documented study which appeared in the NY TIMES 8/4/09.  It seems a majority of consumers are getting very tired of the frustration, time and effort it takes to try and book a "good trip".  Then hoping you got good information, made a good choice & don't have any issues come up which you might need help with.  Sadly we all know there usually is some kind of an issue which likely will come up.  This is when you want to have someone who knows the industry -with years(not weeks) of experience to help you out.  That business owner also wants you to be happy -since they want repeat & referral business.  You are an important client -not a reservation #.

People's time is very compressed these days & they don't want to be handling every single detail in their lives.  These people also feel their vacation is too important to entrust to the "luck of the drawer".  Travel is the Agent's industry -and we constantly are getting the latest inside scoop & following through on education is also going on.  We also have a lot of inside contacts who let us know the real deal.  As far as customer service I'll convey an example: A new client called & they had already booked a cruise vacation online -a friend told them about us and since they just had a deposit down they could transfer the bkg. to us.  We looked at the resv. and they had a balcony stateroom, nice ship -what was the issue?  They were sailing with their 6 month old infant & the room was directly over the show lounge.  The "Big Box Travel Co's." book you in the category you ask for and that's it -they don't put any extra effort in trying to be sure your trip is the best for you.  We of course moved their room.

Of course people have been sold a bill of goods on pricing.  We belong to a large travel buying group which means we can match their rates & even sometimes beat them.  But your hard earned getaway shouldn't  totally be about price -that's part of it but not all.  Remember the old saying "A Cheap Trip Can Be Very Expensive"!

We began to see the start of this a couple of years ago when Big Site usage went down approx. 9% and usage of Real Travel Agents went up by about the same degree.  Don't get us wrong -we have a web site & it's a great tool for many things.  We also offer 24/7 booking engines on it if you wish to book it that way.  But at least you have a friend in travel who'll be there if you have a question.  So with 30 years in the industry & the "1st Cruise Agency in America" -let's talk about your next adventure.
